The Castle Roy Trust has taken 25 years to secure the walls and make the area safe for visitors. We are ready for WEDDINGS and PERFORMANCES in the grounds with utilities on site and a large area flattened for marquees. The Bards Bowl and Panoramic Picnic Point allow for fun and games for the whole family.
As of summer 2019, there is still some building work continuing and we hope that soon the castle will be completely open.
At present, accompanied tours can be given on request.
We suddenly received another donation. What a lovely surprise from Patrick, who was visiting Scotland for the first time. Thank you all, We are getting there. Meanwhile, his simple shelter has helped him this summer and the umbrella! It is not a permanent fix but it was the early donations that helped with that and we are not wasting them. The wood can be reused and the umbrella was a donation! We were a bit thrown when our first plan fell through due to planning restrictions! So, this has been a nice boost. We have a few more annual sponsors now, too!
Murdo is 'Guardian of our Castle' and is attracting visitors, not only to him and his wee friend Poppy, the pony, but also to the castle which was a stronghold for the clans, Comyn and Grant. He really suffered from the heat in the wonderful summer that we have just enjoyed and would be better...
*********WE HIT 1000 VISITORS*********
A huge thank you to ALL the folk who have visited and helped us to achieve this number.
All set for the Abernethy Games tomorrow. Don't forget the Castle will be open and fingers crossed for the good weather. We will hopefully have pony rides and a carriage to bus you up and down the drive 🙂 Don't forget Murdo will be awaiting his fans.
Please be aware Murdo's field fence, along the castle mound path, is mains ELECTRIC and it is ON. This does not mean you cant speak to him just avoid the mound side. Sadly he has taken a liking to the little trees so we must give them a chance to grow until they are both strong and spiky enough for him not to enjoy them 😉 Thank you 🙂
Oor coo is famous again 🙂 Here he is with some visitors enjoying a grooming session. With the glorious castle shrouded with the thunder clouds, looming in the background 🌩
We are busy making plans for Abernethy Highland Games day, we have pony rides in the afternoon, fun and games on the paddocks, pony petting and of course coo admiring a plenty 🙂
*Castle Roy's disability access is open again, thank you for your cooperation* 🙂
Hi there Castle Roy fans, the nominated verge mower is out on the drive until Monday 15th lunchtime. If disabled access is required please phone the number on the main gate during normal working hours. Thank you. 🙂
